MATERIALS
I use the highest quality thick (5 ounce) tanned cow leather normally used for saddles, chaps, and sandals. It comes from California. I cut the whole cow skin into rectangular covers. As often as I can, I leave the tri-fold edge as the natural edge of the leather.
The journals are wrapped with a soft deer skin strap which I buy and cut down from whole skins locally from the Spotted Pony Traders in Hawthorne, FL.
I import the paper directly from India. India has a major cloth and handmade paper industry. This paper is 100% cotton rag which means there is no wood pulp hence no acid. The paper is archival , which means it is meant to last for the long term. It will not turn yellow or brown like a newspaper or a paperback novel.
HANDMADE PAPERS
The End Sheets are what form the front and back page of your journal.
These papers are imported from around the world.
These various decorative papers are used to protect the body of the writing paper from the oil of the leather. It adds just one more unique touch to each journal. Pick your favorite and email Allison with your selection.
